Wahed Gesha

Marcial Huanca | Finca Palmar

Details

This washed Gesha from Marcial Huanca at Finca Palmar in Caranavi, Bolivia, is a striking expression of one of the world's most celebrated varieties. Cherries were depulped, fermented, and carefully dried — letting the variety speak for itself.

Delicate white florals and jasmine open the nose, followed by ripe peach and yellow stone fruits that linger with a silky, refined sweetness. A gentle acidity ties it all together, delivering clarity and lift in every sip.

Let your coffee rest

The coffee should rest for minimum 21 days after roasting and be used within 4 months at the latest. The coffee reaches its maximum complexity within a certain period of time. In our experience we found that between 4-8 weeks the coffees are reaching their peak.

What is Omniroast?

Omnirost (or "omni-roast") is a roasting approach where coffee beans are roasted to a versatile light-medium level that works well across multiple brewing methods. Rather than optimizing for a single preparation style, omnirost aims to deliver balanced flavor that shines whether the coffee is brewed as espresso, pour-over, French press, or other methods.

About the varietal

Über die Sorte

Gesha

Gesha is an Ethiopian landrace variety originating from the Gori Gesha forest in southwestern Ethiopia. Collected in the 1930s and later distributed through research stations in Kenya, Tanzania, and Costa Rica, it came to worldwide prominence in 2005 at the Best of Panama auction, where its extraordinary cup quality broke all previous records. The variety requires careful cultivation at high altitudes, produces relatively low yields, and demands meticulous attention at every stage. In the cup, Gesha is defined by its jasmine-like florals, refined stone fruit sweetness, and a tea-like delicacy that no other variety can replicate.

About the process

Über die Aufbereitung

Washed

The washed process begins with carefully harvested ripe coffee cherries being sorted and fed through a depulper to remove the outer skin and fruit flesh. The depulped beans are then placed in fermentation tanks for 24 to 72 hours, where naturally occurring microbes break down the remaining mucilage layer. Once fermentation is complete, the beans are thoroughly washed with clean water and laid out on raised drying beds. This method prioritises clarity and transparency, ensuring that the intrinsic character of the variety and the terroir of Caranavi come through in the cup with precision and brightness.

Omniroast

About the roast

Omniroast

Most coffees are roasted with a single brewing method in mind — lighter for filter, darker for espresso. An Omniroast throws out that rulebook.

Each of our Omniroast coffees is developed to a single, carefully crafted profile that lets the coffee shine however you choose to brew it — whether that's a morning pour-over, a pulled espresso shot, or anything in between. The goal is balance: enough brightness and complexity to sing in a filter brew, enough body and sweetness to hold up as an espresso.

It's all about the coffee

At Sandbox, we embrace innovation and challenge the status quo. That’s why we don’t differentiate between espresso and filter roasts, and we use only light roasts to bring out the best in our coffee. We encourage you to explore and experiment with our coffees—whether you prefer filter, espresso, or flat white, make it your own. Be curious, enjoy the journey and let’s learn from each other!
